Revkovskyi and Rachynskyi

For more than a year we have been researching industrial cities of the Dnipropetrovsk region: their history, architecture, social processes over the last decade. We chose the city of Kamianske as a typical Ukrainian post-industrial city with typical problems. Kamianske (until 2016 - Dniprodzerzhynsk) is just one of the number of cities in the Dnipropetrovsk region with poor ecological condition and a regular outflow of population due to the decline of industry. It is anindustrial city with unpopulated wide avenues and squares, formed by large city-forming enterprises: DMK, PCH, DneproAzot. Repeatedly, residents demanded that Kamianske must be granted the status of an ecological disaster.

One of the parts of the project "Soot" is a video, filmed by employees of enterprises of the Depropetrovsk region. The second part is the reconstruction of the exterior of the cafe "Paradise", which is located at the entrance of the plant and is covered daily with a thick layer of soot. The third part is a photographic series of 12 photos: in different parts of residential areas of Kamianske, we applied one letter to the endfaces of typical five-story buildings.

Only by collecting all the letters together, you can read the inscription "WE FUCKED UP". This slogan is a conclusion of the research of the situation in the Depropetrovsk region, particularly the city of Kamianske: with the environmental situation, outflow of the population and the reluctance of authorities to change something. It is also about the fact that art in Ukraine is failing to perform social criticism function.
